What I loved about Planet Hollywood Costa Rica.
Initially I was skeptical that Planet Hollywood would be the type of hotel that was a good fit for me, however I always try to have an open mind. While I’ve enjoyed many Hollywood movies, I wouldn’t describe myself as a movie buff.

The welcome was well choreographed though to really draw you in, from the fire wielding actress, to walking the red carpet with the paparazzi taking photos of your arrival, then offered a welcome drink you are quickly drawn in and made to feel like a star.
There are plenty of photo opts in the main lobby to get you into the mode to “Vacation like a Star!” While I was there the memorabilia from Indiana Jones was on display including the outfit worn by Harrison Ford.

From the lobby you are immediately drawn into the amazing view overlooking the bay. It’s here in the main building that you can have the buffet breakfast lunch and dinner with these same breathtaking views. You have the option of dining outside on the terrace, but depending on the weather it can be quite humid so you can also choose to dine inside in the air conditioning.
The selection of fresh food choices was extensive, from the fresh fruit and fruit juices, made to order eggs and omelette stations, with plenty of local options such as tamales. The service was always warm and friendly and delivered with a smile.

It is also here in the main building that you can pop in for a coffee your way, such as I had a cafe latte.
There is a good variety of a la carte restaurants including Blue Star, Tex Mex Cantina; Gusto Italian Trattoria; East Sushi and Teppanyaki Bar; Sunset Strip Steakhouse and Grill; and Guy Fiore’s Burger Joint.
Some highlights of the property are the private cabanas for rent; an extensive kids club including foosball, air hockey, board games and a dressing room with plenty of costumes to spark the imagination; the evening entertainment was very good with the Cirque du Soleil inspired shows.

The Rooms maintained the theme of vacationing like a star with a soft hint of bling and glamour. A surprising liberating feature was the keyless room access using your bracelet. You just scan your bracelet and enter. No panic if you had forgotten your key inside, or rifling through your bag upon return from the beach or pool. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and modern.

There is the option of enjoying the fun and activities around the main pool or an alternate quieter pool. The main pool does quiet down between 4 – 5pm depending on the season, so as to not interfere with the yoga class located on an outdoor terrace above the gym.
