most spectacular view in
the area. Tonight’s
accommodations are in
the rustic Mansion
Tarahumara Hotel, only
600 yards from the rim.
Family-style meals are
included during your
stay here. The views of
the three Canyons (Tararecua,
Urique and Barranca del
Cobre) that comprise
Copper Canyon, makes
Divisadero (“The
Divide”) an
unforgettable stop on
your trip across the
mountains. Optional
afternoon hike.
Day 3 HIKING IN
COPPER CANYON B, L, D
After breakfast, our
local guide will lead
the way as we descend
about halfway down the
canyon. Along the way,
we pass Tarahumara
Indian Ranchos and enjoy
incredible views of
Urique Canyon. After a
picnic lunch, packed at
the hotel, we have a
chance to rest before we
head back to the hotel
for dinner and our
overnight stay.
Day 4
DIVISADERO-BARRANCAS-CREEL
B, L
You may spend the rest
of the morning at the
hotel, trading and
shopping with the
Indians, or take an
optional hike along the
rim on your own. At 2:25
pm we will board the
train for our trip to
Creel (arrival at 5PM).
The Westernized lumber
and mining town of Creel
is the gateway to the
land of the most
primitive and nomadic
tribe in North America,
the Tarahumara Indians.
Day 5 RECOHUATA HOT
SPRINGS B, boxed-L
This morning we will
drive for about a half
hour to the rim of the
Canyon, then will hike
down about 1,500 feet to

pools filled with warm
water, before we hike
back up to the rim. A
picnic lunch is included
by the hot springs.
Day 6 CREEL—BATOPILAS B
An early morning
departure to the bottom
of the Canyon. Here we
find Batopilas, a rich
mining town founded in
1708. The scenery along
the narrow, winding road
alternates between
cliffs, coniferous
forests and dry
vegetation. We stay in a
beautiful old mansion
for the next two nights.
Day 7 BATOPILAS
We can take a good 4
hour hike to an old
mission and church, or
simply relax and take in
the small-town life.
Day 8 BATOPILAS
Half day hike, or
relax with a day off.
Day 9 BATOPILAS–
