Truly a
nation “out of many, one people”
Jamaica is a multifaceted mosaic
of international customs and
traditions. Our ancestors, from
Africa, Asia, Europe and the
Middle East, have helped to
shape our culture, creating one
that is uniquely Jamaican. When
visiting our island home, take
time to experience our culture…
it’s what sets us apart from
other Caribbean destinations.
Reason with a Rastafarian about
life, love or politics. Lose
yourself in the rhythms and
movements of a people who still
refuse to be constrained. Visit
one of our many theatres or
stage shows and delight in our
performing arts, showcasing
everything from Jonkonnu to
jazz. Want to dance too? Join in
the wild revelry of Carnival and
Augus’ Mawnin or just follow the
reggae beat, pulsing from street
corners and rum bars island
wide. After that, share a meal
with us –ackee and saltfish with
roast breadfruit, escoveitched
fish, bammy and festival – our
epicurean feasts will tantalize
your taste buds. In Jamaica,
you’ll discover new worlds, and
familiar ones too, lots to learn
about, and even more to love. No
wonder we’ve been called ‘the
biggest little island in the
world…’ It’s a title we can live
with.
What
to do:
Dunn's River Falls is
one of Jamaica's national
treasures. Globally, it is as
well known as reggae and equally
stimulating. There are few
places where the Arawak name "Xayamaca"
- land of rivers and springs -
is more apt. The Spaniards
called the area "Las Chorreras",
the waterfalls or springs and it
is truly one of the most
beautiful spots on the island.
A stone's throw from Ocho Rios,
one of Jamaica's fastest growing
resort centres, Dunn's River
Falls is unique. Described as a
living and growing phenomenon,
it continuously regenerates
itself from deposits of
travertine rock, the result of
precipitation of calcium
carbonate from the river, as it
flows over the falls. The small
dome-shaped cataracts are
usually associated with thermal
spring activity found in
limestone caves. This, combined
with its location near to the
sea, gives Dunn's River the
distinction of being the only
one of its kind in the
Caribbean, if not the world.
Rafting on the
Martha Brae is Jamaica's premier
rafting attraction. A skilled
raft captain on a 30ft. bamboo
raft takes visitors on a
romantic adventure into the
scenic and tranquil beauty of
the island. This unique
experience encompassing over 3
miles of beautiful and
picturesque river should not be
missed by any visitor.
Rose Hall Great House
The White Witch awaits you in
the great house at Rose Hall.
Dead more than a century, Annie
Palmer still stirs memories of
her reign as the mistress of the
Rose Hall Great House
Appleton Estate Rum
Tour gives the visitor an inside
look at the rum making process.
Visitors watch resident donkey "Pax"
demonstrate how juice was
extracted from sugar cane in the
18th century. From there the
tour takes visitors to the
Distillery & Aging House where
the different methods of
distillation are shown. Visitors
are then able to juice their own
cane, sample white rum and boil
"wet sugar".
Bob Marley Experience and
Theatre
Discover a legend and spirit of
Bob Marley. This retail and
entertainment centre includes
complimentary admission to an
air-conditioned theatre where
visitors watch a film on the
life and work of Bob Marley on
the big screen
Bloomfield Great House
is a 200-year-old Georgian-style
coffee plantation main house
built many years before the town
of Mandeville was formed in
1838. It was renovated in 1997
by a Jamaican family and an
Australian son-in-law, and now
houses a fine dining restaurant
offering a spectacular view of
Mandeville, and the occasional
art exhibition and live music
concert
Negril Beach
Stretching for 11km, the long,
white-sand beach in Negril is
arguably Jamaica’s finest.
It starts with the white sands
of Bloody Bay north of town and
continues along Long Bay all the
way to the cliffs on the
southern edge of town.
James Bond Beach
Located just 20 minutes from the
hustle and bustle of Ocho Rios
James Bond Beach is spectacular,
beautiful beaches surrounded by
crystal clear water on three
sides and an amazing backdrop;
the lush mountains of St. Mary
reaching straight down to the
sea. James Bond Beach is well
known for the fabulous fresh
fish and seafood served at the
two story Moonraker "Jamaican"
Bar & Grill. The fish is so
fresh we let you pick which one
you want to eat! If you are
looking for a little excitement
James Bond Beach also offers the
ultimate.
