Travelling with Children
-
Ensure that each child has a valid Canadian passport and supporting identification. Check with embassy/consulate if you need any additional information
- Obtain a certified letter authorizing travel. Letter should be signed and dated by the parent(s) who are not travelling. For a sample of this letter and more information, click here.
- Seek advice from a lawyer especially if there is a custody battle. Custody arrangements in Canada may not be recognized in some countries
- Never leave a young child unattended and keep a copy of some form of ID in their pocket in case you are separated.
- Arrange for airlines to escort unaccompanied minors on and off the plane if they are travelling without parents. Ensure that the person who is receiving the child at the other end has appropriate ID with them.
- Use an approved child safety seat for infants. With smaller children have a pacifier or bottle to help equalize ear pressure and make them more comfortable.
- Bring adequate supply of baby products.
