Traveller’s Checklist

Ensure your trip is safe and problem fee. A simple checklist to make sure that you have the basics covered.

  • Carry a passport that is valid well beyond the date of return. Keep copies of passport and ID separate from original.
  • Plan your itinerary & budget
  • Purchase travel & health insurance
  • Leave copies of ID and passport with someone in Canada
  • Obtain visas well in advance
  • Check whether dual citizenship is going to be a problem
  • If travelling with children, ensure that you have documentation proving your right to accompany them.
  • Take care of health needs : vaccinations, prescriptions, medical certificates, supplies, extra glasses or contact lens.
  • Obtain an international driving permit if needed.
  • Register online with the Canadian government office abroad
  • Anticipate financial needs : local currency, traveller’s cheques, departure tax
  • Prepare for your flight by carefully attending to luggage, documentation and airport security rules.
  • While abroad, keep receipts and make special arrangements for food, plants and animals to be brought back to Canada.
