- Some countries have departure taxes that may or may not be included in your package. Find out before you leave if you have to pay this tax or carry extra local currency if you are not sure.

- If you have been away from Canada for more than 24 hours you are allowed $50 CDN worth of goods not including tobacco or alcohol. If you bring more than this, you will have to pay full duties.
- If you are away for more than 48hours you may bring back up to $200 CDN. in addition to 1.14L of liquor, 1.5L of wine or a 24 case of bottled or canned beer/ale. 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or cigarillos, 200 tobacco sticks and 200 grams of manufactured tobacco are allowed duty free.
- If you have been away for more than 7 days you may bring goods up to $750 CDN and can include the liquor, alcohol, tobacco as outlined above.
- Always declare all items purchased or acquired abroad whether for yourself or as gifts. Keep original receipts for inspection.
- Certain goods are not allowed in Canada and are considered illegal. If you are considering returning with meat, eggs, dairy, fresh fruit and vegetables, plants, animals or products made from their skins or feathers contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency before.
- Cultural property such as antiques, fossils whose sale are banned are not allowed and strict penalties may be imposed.
